What is Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve.  The optic nerve carries the images we see to the brain.  Glaucoma can damage nerve fibers, causing blind spots to develop.  Early detection and treatment are key to preventing optic nerve damage and blindness from glaucoma.

Florida Eye Center

The Florida Eye Center continues our commitment in offering the safest and best patient care to prevent blindness and restore sight.  We are providing our patients with the latest alternatives in glaucoma treatment.  We are pleased to announce the availability of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty.  Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is exciting glaucoma therapy that revolutionizes you treatment by helping to control glaucoma without eye drops.  SLT laser is one of the most significant and safest advanced in the treatment of glaucoma in history.  This is a laser treatment using microscopic laser light to "open" the clogged drains of the eye and lower the glaucoma pressure back to a safe level to prevent blindness.

January is Glaucoma Awareness Month

More than 2.2 million Americans age 40 and older have glaucoma. Half again that many may be unaware they have this potentially blinding disease because they have no symptoms.

Glaucoma is a condition in which the optic nerve is damaged. The optic nerve is the part of the eye that carries the images we see to the brain. Damage to the nerve is usually associated with elevated pressure inside the eye (called intraocular pressure). However, other factors can be involved and can lead to vision loss.
